Zehntner Glossmeters - measuring gloss on a variety of surfaces

Proceq offers a variety of Glossmeters, with a gloss measuring system covering several ranges and angles, for use on a variety of materials. Zehntner Glossmeters are renowned for their special solutions for measuring on very small as well as on curved samples. Zehntner gloss meters are made for use in the paint, plastics, paper, foil and metal industries and conform to many standards, including ASTM International worldwide standards.

Gloss is an optical property of a surface, characterized by its ability to reflect light. As a light beam strikes a surface, most of it will penetrate the layer of paint, the rest will be reflected. A glossmeter (also gloss meter) measures the gloss or specular reflection of a surface by projecting a beam of light onto a surface and then measuring the reflected light at an equal but opposite angle. Proper measurements are only possible on even, clean and unscratched surfaces and the angle measured depends on if the surface is high gloss, semi gloss or matte.
