Proceq & DHL join forces to deliver innovative apprentice program

April 28, 2016

Swiss-based Proceq and DHL have formed a partnership to offer young people broader apprenticeship opportunities.

Schwerzenbach/Switzerland, April 28th, 2016 – Global leader in portable measurement solutions for non-destructive testing, Proceq, has today announced a cross-industry partnership with international logistics services company DHL to complement the well-es

The new program will deliver logistics training for Proceq apprentices to broaden their appreciation of business and DHL apprentices will gain on-the-job experience not only in the preparation of items for international shipping, but also insights into a product-oriented organization. Apprenticeships run for three or four years, depending on the subject chosen, and the new partnership will see apprentices from both organizations involved in an ‘exchange’ program for a total of around six weeks during their apprenticeships.

Since 2009, Proceq has been building up a comprehensive apprentice program at their Swiss HQ at Schwerzenbach, near Zürich. The range of subjects offered, in conjunction with the appropriate business schools, has expanded now to cover five fields – commercial/general business, electronics, applied computer science, IT system technician, logistics/supply chain. The apprenticeships lead to the respective Business Diplomas and enhance job prospects for the young participants of the scheme.

Apprentices at Proceq have contributed positively to the business through exciting assignments including new product development projects and international tradeshows such as Auto Salon and IAA, as well as managing a staff kiosk. They have been involved in the preparation of surveys and also reports on customer satisfaction and financial market data. The apprentices are supported and actively challenged not only by the specialized staff in each department, but also by the company’s senior management and CEO.

Katharina Esslinger, Proceq’s Apprentice Trainer, commented: "We continuously seek to improve the scope of what we offer the young people who join our program. Until now, we have made opportunities available within our own international organization – for example, with our subsidiaries in England and France. This new partnership with DHL will now allow us to expand our program further to include logistics and first-hand experience within a services organization.”

Gesa Gaiser, Apprenticeship Manager & Trainer at DHL said: “Our partnership with Proceq is a landmark for us, as it will be the first time our apprentices will have the chance of direct experience within a product organization. Now, they will be able to develop an understanding of the two main types of commercial organization – services providers and product manufacturers. This will benefit both the apprentice as they will be able to make better informed career choices and their eventual employer who will gain a staff member with a broader outlook.”
